SCHOOL LIFE

: KYEONGBUK SCIENCE HIGHSCHOOL

Although our school name has the word 'Science' , not everyone is dreaming to be a scientist. I am one of the case, who is dreaming a design engineer which is a mixed form of deginer and engineer.

THINKING, MAKING, and SHARING. My life was full with those three words. I love to watch people smiling when my performances brought them happiness. In 2016, when I was in 3rd grade of middle school which is a graduating level, I designed my class's own mugs, ordered , and shared them with my classmates. They really loved it and I pledged myself to become a person who can make others happier.

I've first thought about becoming a designer. I knew that well-designed products bring us high-quality lifestyles. However, I read a book of professor Sangmin LEE and deeply inspired with the sentence

" Designer is not the person who makes beautiful trashes."

He was becoming famous with his students in KAIST. They made products based on technologies. They were doing the real design engineering. I felt a lot that I should be able to treat technologies if I want to become a special design engineer. It made me to have interests on science and technologies. I strongly felt the needs on those parts. Because I didn't knew them well, I had to get started learning them. Science-specialized highshcool was my choice. Although I knew that I was not prepared well to perform well, I tried hard to get in: to learn deeply and be friendly with unfamiliar fields. A lot of people asked me  why I'm here, not the Art-specialized highschool.

So I answered them, " I am here to improve myself as an engineer.

I believe that my abilities on design will bring amazing synergy  with the things I'm studying.

Watch out, the most influential design engineer is here to meet the world! "

Since my school is established as science highschool, we spend a lot of time on studying math and science which divided into 4 catagories: physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science. About 5 hours are given to each of them as classtime, and because

Mathematics is important for all that science subjects, we have 9 hours of classtime a week. We also learn Korean, English, Art, Music, History, and others but they have less classtime then those science and math subjects.

Then, what would we do for our long science classtime?

We usually study the theories of each subjects by teachers' lectures. After that, we go downstairs to the experiment room. Each subjects has two own rooms, and there are various experiment tools like a high-speed camera, clean bench, UV-VIS spectrophotometer, lots and lots of tools for classical

mechanics and chemistry experiments like oscilloscopes, dynamic wheels,

beakers, reagents, and... oh my gosh I can't write all of them here. Anyway, we make a group of 4~5 and  find more informations about the topic we had learn. When doing that, students make quriosity of 'how' and 'when'. Then, we start to plan our own experiment. Topics and  progresses are depended on how we plan it.  If there are no such things we want to use, we can ask to buy it! Isn't it cool? Thanks to this system of our school, I've done two experiments for my physics class: The Host resonance experiment and Double slit experiment. Those files on the right are reports for each experiment. For chemistry class, 'Acid base neutralization titration' was the topic for the whole class one day, so all of the classmates had done this experiment. We had 5 teams of 4 members. At my team, I was reponsible for dripping Phenolphthalein and base into the acid. We checked out the time color changes, and calculated the concentration of base we used. I've measured the ostomic pressure of onion cells in biology class. Especially for biology, I had an opportunity to present about zygomycota. At that time, I made a mold ppt template for the presentation. I made a thin layer of stone and analyzed the elements of it with polarizing microscope. All of these were really cool and fun.

SCHOOL CLUB

Second advantage of KBSH is that all of the students can choose an ACADEMIC CLUB to get in. There are eight of them: ChemiA(chemistry), CREATIO(technology startup), DARWIN(biology), EUREKA(mathematics), GLOBE(geology), ICARUS(computer), PLANCK(physics), and P.O.P(astronomy). Unlike other clubs, this group is for the research programs called R&E of I&D. We ask a professor to teach and care us. If he or she agrees, that's a new team! Students can experience how reaserchers spend their time. Getting advices and participating a project is really a great chance to develop. For me, I am in Creatio as the leader. Creatio is a bit different from other academic clubs that we focus on making products while others are researching scientifically. As the leader, I required to develop myself leading the club. So I taught myself using 3D buildup programs such as 123D. I also got to use arduino too. Based on those technological development, we've done two main projects last year(2017). One of them were done in JEJU island where we went for school reaserch camp. We made a vinil setter for shoes that can protect your precious shoes from getting dirty. Second project was quite difficult then that. We tried to make a photo setter based on the zoetrope. Arduino motors were used and my 123D skill worked well. I was proud of myself at that time.

Same as before, whenever we need something to use, we can ask school to buy it. One notebook, one desktop, 3D printer, and lots of arduino parts were added to the Creatioroom last year. I am feeling really thankful to the school for giving me these chances to learn and develop. I am trying my best to catch those chances for my future.

Despite the busy schedules of Studying&Researching, we find our interests on other things too.

1. I'm the keyboard player in the amateur school band name FORTE. We're not the best, but all of us have passion playing musics. Every 7 members practice happily for various school festivals.

2. I'm working as a school librarian. I take the newspaper from the principle's office, and then deliver it into the library. Quite annoying work, but during 2017, thanks to this job, I could build relationship with principle. It leaded me to be brave when talking with adults. Not only the newpaper delivering, but also I stayed at library every saturday to administrate it. This year on 2018, both of them are not my work because new librarians came in! Now I make the book recommanding poster every month.

3. Sometimes I play cello with my friends. Two violinists also love to play musics together. Lase winter, we practiced hard and performed on the graduation ceremony. It was somewhat nervous, but after that I got confidence on myself.

President Life

I'm sure that the year 2018 would be an important part in my teenage. Through the student president election on March 15th,  I became a KBSH's 25th student president. I considered a lot whether or not to be a candidate for a long time. Being a leader is an exciting job but lots of pressure follow the title. I knew that I would spend a lot of time on managing school events.  Many people who love me advised me that it might interrupt my own businesses. However, I thought that being a leader of the whole school will be a great experience for myself to involve leadership and confidence. Thanks to the students who believed and choosed me, I was able to won the election.

Today is June 2nd, 2018. Three months passed after the election. Yesterday, one of the biggest job as a president; being a moderator of the School club's report presentation competition has been finished. During the competition time, I felt myself grown up a lot than before. I got more confidence and relaxation in front of the audiences, even if they are teachers. This time, I was able to make audienced laugh a lot. Thanks to the experiences as the president, I learned how to " COMMUNICATE " with people, not just giving them informations.

Now about 8 month left until the end of president term. I hope I can improve myself more through this huge opportunity that is given to me. In that way, I believe that I would be a better leader who can change the world TOGETHER.
